What is Authors Unlimited?

Authors Unlimited takes place at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. Earn community service credit for attending this free event, which celebrates reading by connecting teens and authors. Books will be available for purchase with a chance to have them signed at the end of the day.

Who is the audience for Authors Unlimited?

Authors Unlimited is an event meant for tweens and teens in grades 5-12. Tweens and teens get preferred seating at all sessions of Authors Unlimited. We kindly ask that parents relinquish a spot in breakout sessions if a tween or teen is in need of a seat.

How do teens in volunteer at Authors Unlimited?

Teens in grades 7-12 can volunteer at Authors Unlimited by filling out an application to be an Author Buddy on the day of the event. Those who are chosen (will be notified by phone) will have to be available from 9AM-3PM on the day of the event. If chosen for this role you will receive 8 hours of community service credit.

Is there another way to get community service credits?

Yes, by attending the event and filling out a survey at the end of the day attendees can receive 5 hours of community service credits. Please note that you would like community service credits upon registration. Certificates for hours will be handed out at the end of the day.

Will there be food for purchase at Authors Unlimited?

While it cannot be promised that food will be available for purchase there will be a 30 minute lunch break. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch to enjoy on the day.

How are authors chosen for Authors Unlimited?

The Authors Unlimited Committee works to ensure that authors who appear at Authors Unlimited have published titles that are appropriate for the intended age group and interest level of those attending the event. A formal publisher request is made to publishing houses to schedule author appearances.
